Summer Fun…

How is everyone coming along on their Summer Fun lists? Are you getting lots accomplished?   We still have a little over a week to mark off some more but we have done pretty good this year. Of course, next week will be filled with back to school registration and shopping for clothes and supplies. While I dread it as a parent because of the insane amount of money that gets spent, I remember how I LIVED for back to school shopping. Getting all of those new outfits and fresh school supplies.  There wasn’t much that made me happier back then. To be honest, I still get a high for picking up some fresh “school supplies” for myself. Anyway, I am trying to keep that excitement in mind for our shopping trips next week! Wish me luck! ;-)

Back to the summer fun list… being that we only have a week left I am having to prioritize the list. You know… narrow it down only to the stuff that I know or think we can get marked off before school starts. So here is what we have left to do… (I will be back to mark them off as we get them done).

  • family game night
  • amusement park
  • make your own pizza night
  • go to the lake
  • fishing
  • family donut morning
  • family ping pong/pool competition
  • back to school clothes shopping
  • back to school supply shopping

I am really hoping that we can get these marked off. Did you sign up for the summer of free bowling for the kids? We did. And I bought the family pass for Eric and I to join them. We have gone once. :( I had this grand idea that we would go quite a bit. This summer has just gone by so fast.

The kids invited some good friends over to swim this week. We haven’t even had time to get in the pool much this summer. Between busy schedules, trips, cool days and rain… there just hasn’t been a whole lot of time. They sure do enjoy it though.

Brooks is one of Noah’s best friends. They have so much fun when they are together or playing on xBox. I am so thankful that they have become such good friends.

  1. I didn’t make a summer list, or anything like that, but I am happy that my kids have had a great summer. It got off to a slow start thanks to me and my recovery from my surgery, but they had camps they went to, and outreach things with our church and they’ve had plenty of friends over. In fact, most nights, somebody extra spends the night. I can’t believe school starts back in a week~we are not starting at the same time, but we are going to start getting back to a routine next week. I’m changing up the way we do school this year and am excited to start!

    • I can’t wait to hear more about your school routine this year. Kendall is giving the middle school a try but she’s considering home school. Her best friend is being home schooled so I think she’s nervous without her.

  2. I finally feel like I have “de-schooled” them. Now that that task is out of the way, our days are going to look different. We’re going to do lots and lots more reading and we’ll be more focused on the “big” subjects, like math, science, and grammar. We’ll be doing the other subjects too, but not every single day. We’ll do history one day a week, literature one day a week and science one day a week. We’ll do math, grammar and reading everyday, though. We’re also going to work more on life skills~measuring ingredients in the kitchen, managing money and upkeep on our home. I’m excited! I’ll share with you as I go along.

    • That sounds great!! I know that they will enjoy it. You are the best teacher they have ever had! :-) I love the idea of bringing in more life skills. With Logan just a year from going to college, we are realizing all of the life skills he needs to learn!! ;-)
